AGB Events were engaged by Cairns Regional Council to create a projection artwork featuring the Cairns Regional Library as a centrepiece for City Lights during the Cairns Festival in 2017.
AGB embarked upon a collaborative process with Yarrabah Art Centre, resulting in ‘Resonance’. The show ran over a two-week period at the Cairns Regional Library. The work was a visual response to country, to the land that formed and nurtured these three proud women of Yarrabah – Edna Ambrym, Philomena Yeatman, and Valmai Pollard. The work invited the viewer to witness the emotional response these women had to living on country, which remained the dominant inspiration source informing their art practice over many years.
For 2018, AGB have been re-engaged by Cairns Regional Council, this time AGB approached artist Vanghoua Anthony Vue to collaborate on the digital artwork ‘Mix Tape’ for the City Lights Program. Mr Vue’s artwork is a cross-cultural mix of traditional fabric designs from his Hmong heritage with his childhood memories of taping windows before cyclone season in Cairns. AGB is now remixing his works to create a visually stunning projection piece again on the Cairns Regional Library.
